+ INQUEST. An inquest was held on Saturday morning at Yaklliurst before Mr J. 11. Seager, acting coroner, and a jury of four, on the body of John Frederick Nicklaun, mho died suddenly at his residence on Thursday. Evidence of identification was given by a son of the deceased. At the adjourned inquest proceedings held to-day on Kiko Anaru, a Maori returned soldier, who was found injured in the Caledonian Hotel on Saturday week, and who died in hospital later, a verdict was returned that death was due to a fracture of the base of the skull, caused by a fall while intoxicated. A chapter of motor accidents occured in Napier during the week-end Dennis Crowley, a resident of Clive for over forty years, was knocked down and killed by a car at Olivo He was crossing the road and became confused on the approach of the car, which was being driven from Hastings to Napier with a load of hockey players. ' On Saturday evening William James Munro, clerk at Messrs Niven’s, was found unconscious on the Napier Torrace, having been run over by a car which had driven off. leaving Munro lying on the road. Munro was taken to the hospital, where a slight improvement in his condition is reported. The driver of the car has not been discovered. Two other collisions were reported, but in these there were no serious effects. Another motor accident occurred to-day. Jack Fox, aged four years, son of Conductor Fox, of the City Band, was mu over by a motor-car on the Marine Parade and his thigh and skull were fractured. The child is in the hospital in a serious state. FOUND DEAD. [Per Press Association.] INVERCARGILL, Juno 3. A well-1 mown Drummond farmer, William Edward Ward, aged fifty-two, left his home yesterday to inspect cattle. As he failed to return a search- was made and his body found in a gravel pit containing six feet of water. Death apparently was accidental. . Deceased leaves a widow and six children.
