Mr Alfred Lindsay, who for many years was a prominent, business man in Wellington, died yesterday. Mr Lindsay, who was in his eightieth year, was bom in Edinburgh, and was apprenticed to the boot trade in that city, completing his term in 1559. After working as a journeyman in Edinburgh nine years he left for New Zealand, arriving in Wellington by the ship Coleroon in 1867. He at once started in business there, and for many years carried on a boot factory. Eventually ho confined himself to the retail and importing business- . In 1896 he was elected a member of the City Council, retiring two years later. He was one of the founders of the Wellington Bowling Club, and retained bis membership until his end.
