BOWLING.
CENTRE OHAMPSONSHIPS. PLAY COMMENCED TO-DAY. The champion of champions competitions of the Christchurch Centro of the Dominion Bowling Association were commenced io-duy* in beautiful weather. Seventeen clubs were engaged in the rinks and doubles. In order to facilitate the play for subsequent rounds the first round, in each event consisted of one game only. These were commenced at tne Edgeware Club’s grqen at 9,30 a.m„ and resulted in favour of Lyttelton (rinks), and Opawa (doubles). The second round was started at noon, the rink events being decided on tho Edgeware Green and the doubles on the Christchurch Club's ereen. The third round of tho rinks was to follow immediately, playing being continued as opponents were clear to meet. Owing to the riukjaking precedence the doubles nlay was proceeded with as players became available. The following are results:— RINKS. First Round. Lyttelton—D. Page, E. A. Irwin, S. Sinclair, E. H. Haworth (skip), 28, beat Sydenham—T. Freeman and G. Biltcliff (skip), 22. BECKENHAM. A rink from Opawa met Beckenham on Beckenham green on Thursday last. Tho following was the score:—Opawa—Owen, Chapman, Ditford and Jacques, 17; Becken-ham-Brown, Simpson, Peek and Leckie. 24. CANTERBURY GREEN. The following matches have been played: Champion Singles—English 22 v. Crumm 16; English 29 v. Burgess 16; Barnett 19 v. Hayejrtlr 12; Barnett 21 v. English 9. M. P. Barnett is champion of tho club, and will be its representative in the Maddiaon trophy competition.
