HEALTH OF THE TROOPS. [Pbh Press Association.] AUCKLAND, March 7. During the voyage of the Port Melbourne Private E. H, Smith, of North Auckland, died of pneumonia on February 8 and was buried at sea. There are two 1 oot cases, ono of pneumonia and one of mumps, but otherwise the health of the troops was quite satisfactory. A PROTEST. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, March 7. (.be Mayor has telegraphed to tho Minister of Defence a strong protest against tho mismanagement in connection with the landing of the Port Melbourne troops and urging that stops should bo taken to prevent a recurrence.
