Dr Thacker, M.P., lias received telegrams -from the Hon W. D. S'. MacDonald and the Hon G. W. Russell assuring him that the representations of the marshland potato-growers will receive careful attention. A meeting of Bromley residents was held in the schoolroom last evening for the purpose of making n protest against the proposal to raise a loan for the erection of a Bromley Hall, kfr Huggins was elected to the chair, and after he had stated the reason for the calling of the meeting, considerable discussion ensued, as the outcome of which a deputation, consisting of Messrs Huggins, Simmonds, Gates, Melhuish, Hill and Lawrence, was appointed to wait upon the Heathootft County Council to place the views of those present in opposition to the loan before it. Mr Gates said that he held two petitions, containing about forty ratepayers, against the proposed loan. Mr Burton, the member for the Bromley area on the County Council, said that there had been a well-signed requisition in favour of the proposal. He suggested that a meeting of those for and against the' proposal should be a .subsequent dale, and this was agreed to.
