TO-DAY’S SITTING. CHRISTCHURCH. _ ZMosprs H. J, Crowther and C. I). Morris, J.l’.'.v, presided at the Magistrate s Court this morning. DRUNKENNESS. A first offender tor being drunk in Tumu Street on the previous day was fined 5s mid costs. William Lail'ey, a second offender, who pleaded guilty to being drunk on the Opawa Hoad,'was lined 10s and costs. ALLEGED THEFT. A young man named Frederick Haxton, charged with the theft of a motor tyre, valued at TILL the property of Gordon Hughan, was remanded to appear at Carterton on March 12. FAILURE TO MAINTAIN. Charles Ezra Beckett, who appeared on a charge of failing to maintain his wife, was remanded to Friday next. SALVATION ARMY HOME ESCAPEE. Alice Maria Young, who. on Sunday, February 23, escaped from the Salvation Army Reformatory Institution* in company with Evelyn May Flaerty, appeared in answer to the charge of so regaining: her liberty. Young, who is a young girl, with hair hanging down her back, was also charged with thetheft bf a lady's overcoat, 1 value £-1 4-, at Ashburton on January Id, the property of May Patterson Accused was remanded till March 13. AN INDECENT ACT. Mary APKegney. an old offender, was charged wirli being drunk on Ricearton Road on February 20. Ernest Stuart, with Alary APKegney, was charged with committing an indecent act. Senior-Sergeant- Camming asked t-ha-t APKegney, who had been convicted of the charge of drunkenness on February 20. and bad been ordered to come up for pen fence when called upon, should be remanded till Friday so that she could he tried by the Magistrate under tin' Crimes -Vet. The remand was granted. Accused, as she left the dock, held forth in voluble protest, maintaining Unit there was nothing she should be remanded for. Mr Twynebam appeared for Stuart, who. he said, was a returned soldier, and a -Alain Body man. Ho had been drinking heavily, and counsel asked for leniency, by reason of the good servic'd he had done for his country. In the light of this fact Stuart was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
