SPLENDID RESULTS.
THE FRENCH ADVANCE. TWENTY VILLAGES GAINED A. and N.Z. Cable Association and Reuter. (Received August 23, 11.25 a.m.) ■ LONDON, August 22. A French communique states:—Between Mata and the Oise tho enemy, despite his resistance, bent under our vigorous pressure. Lassigny has fallen, and further south we secured a looting at Lo Plemonl. Wo captured Orval Wood aud reached the outskirts of Ohiry-Ourscampa. Wo continued to bo successful east of the Oise and captured Carlcpont 'Woods, which are on the Oiso, south-east of JNoyon, between Sempigny and Pointoise. Farther east we passed tho Noyou-Coucy-le-Ohateau road. Wo captured Camelin, Lefresne and Blerancourt, and reached the outskirts of St Aubin- Since yesterday we have liberated a score of villages and advanced eight kilometres at certain points. Forty-one tons of projectiles were dropped during daylight on troop concentration convovs at the passage of the Ailette, in addition to tens of thousands of cartridges fired by machine guns. W'e continued to attack, bomb and machine-gun the Ailette passages during the night time, besides dropping twenty-threo tons on several stations.
