The death occurred yesterday of Mr Stephen Nosworthy. at his residence, Canon Street, St Albans. Mr Nosvrortliy, who was born at Manator, South Devon, in 182S, was a very <old settler, first landing in New Zealand at Auckland in -184 S. He returned Home in the ship bv which ho arrived, bnt came back to New Zealand in 1852- After engaging in pastoral work in the North Island for several years, Mr Nosworthy came to Canterbury in 1860, and two years later was appointed manager of the Levels Estate, then owned by the late Messrs Robert Heaton Rhodes and George Rhodes. Subsequently ho managed the St Leonard's Estate in th<* Amuri. Mr Nosworthy took a prominent part on the Turf as a breeder and owner of racehorses, <uad managed, thn jliddle Park Stud Company for a year or two. Mr Nosworthy was married in 18(33. His wife died towards the end iof last year. He leaves a family ol two sons (one of whom is Mr AY. Nosworthy, M.P. for Ashburton) and four unmarried daughters.
