SOUTH AFRICAN ACTION.
Stoppage of Non-Essential Work.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received April 10, 10.50 a-m.) CAPETOWN, April 9. The Government announces that, in view of the urgent necessity for recruits. it has been decided that only absolutely essential works shall be carried on. Non-essential works will be stopped till the end of the war. The Government desires the services of women, and returned soldiers will he utilised as far as possible in the public service. The Government also will allow recruiters access to Government offices for the purpose of obtaining recruits. This concession, hitherto, has been refused.
