MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

TO-DAY’S SITTING. Christchurch. Mr T. A. I). Bailey, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court to-day. DRUNKENNESS. A first offender for drunkenness was fined os and costs, in default twentytour hours’ imprisonment, BY-LAW CASKS, Murray M'Konzio was lined 10s and costs for cycling on a footpath. For cycling by night without lights the following were fined 15s and costs: —Frederick Doe!!, Claude Woodbury, Morton Manhire, Raymond Glen, Hugh Flaherty, Sydney Hoben, Stanley Kirk. Walter Mapstone, John Strachan. George Bishop, George Williams and Thomas Sends Bobinson. For a similar offence the following wore fined 5s and costs:—James ('avenbead, Gerald Hoaphy and Martha Hensiiaw. The following were convicted and discharged :—'Walter Grinishaw, John Sinclair Chisholm and Samuel Irwin. Thomas Cox, charged with cycling by night without lights and also with pillion riding, was fined 10s and costs on each count. For leaving a motor-cycle by night without a light _ attached, Archibald Hunt was fufod os and costs. For leaving their motor-cars unattended in Lowe Street, Biccarton, William James Skurr, Bnbert Janies Taylor, George Witte, William Witte arid Basil C. Quaife were each fined 10s and costs, and "William Alan Fleming (Mr Dongall) and Julius A. A. Caesar were convicted and discharged. Stanley Foster (Mr Twynehnm) was fined 20s and costs for exceeding tho speed limit in Regent Street, Woolston, whilst for speeding in the same street Ronald James Rostiennx, Edgar Bradley, Percy Stanley NTcholU and Leslie Georgo Harris were, each fined 40s and costs. Rehceca M’Cabo 'was fined os and costs for allowing cuttle to wander. , _ For driving a vehicle on the wrong side of a street Criss Schroder was lined 20s and costs. A charge against Hugh Woods (Air Salter) for driving a vehicle on the wrong side of tho street was dismissed. THE DEFENCE ACT. A number of senior cadets were charged with failing to attend drill or with failing to register under the Defence Act. -Major Conway appeared lor the military authorities. For failing to attend drill the follow, ing were lined 10s and costs;— Henry Richard Savage, Thomas Baden Howiy, Stanley Nicliol Aluffey. For similar offences Frederick Savage, was fined 30s ami costs. Jack Taylor was convicted and discharged, and Arthur James Thompson was lined 5s and costs. Tlie following, charged with failing to register under the Defence Act, were fined 10s without costs:—Stanlov Bnkor, Douglas Colville, John William M. S. Ewing, William Charles Keenan, Arthur John Knight, Charles Lambert Lloyd .James Mikklesou, Richard Clarence Sibly. Tn the cases of Thomas Baden Howiy and Robert Francis Lawrence, costs were added to the fine of 10s. Percy Sand ford and Harry Joseph 114010, charged with failing to register, were both convicted and discharged.
