Superintendent Dwyer returned to Christchurch last- night from a visit, to Kaikour,.. and Cheviot. Captain Bone, marine superintendent lor the New Zealand Shipping Company at "Wellington, arrived from the north thus morning. Mr John M'Donald, wbc»-left Canterbury some forty years ago. and became one of the- founders of the }~>rosporous town of Eltham, Taranaki, and who for many years was chairman of directors of the Xgaire Dairy Company, is revisiting Christchurch. The Hon J. Allen. Acting-Prime Minister, the Hon G. AY. Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs, the lion AY. D. S. Mao.Donald, Minister of Agriculture, and the Hon AY. Fraser, Minister of Public Works, who attended the funeral of the late Hon Dr R-. M'Nab, at Invercargill on AA'ednesday, arrived in Christchurch. last night, and went on to "Wellington. Tho Duncdin correspondent of the " Lyttelton Times' 1 ' states that Mr C R. I). Biehardson, Chief Inspector of Schools of Otago, died yesterday, just forty-eight hours after tho performance of a serious operation for a trouble from which he has suffered for some time. Mr Richardson recovered well from the effects of tho operation, and first showed signs of collapse yesterday morning, hie was one of the most able and popular officers ever in the service of the Otago Board. He was born in Roxburgh in 1885. Major AV. H. Meddings, N.Z.S.C., who was Assistant-Quai'teruiaster-General on tho administrative staff of the Canterbury military district for some considerable tirne. has been relegated to .the command of tho TivcntyThird Reinforcements. Major Meddings's duties have been taken up by Captain R. S. Matthews, N.Z.S.C, formerly Assistant-Adjutant-General on the Canterbury staff, and Captain Mat,th®wfl's position has been filled by Lieutenant J>. M. Robertson, who was invalided from.;.
