FINANCIAL DEBATE.
MR WILFORB'S VIEWS. [Pee Press Association.] NELSON, May 21. Speaking to a " Mail " reporter with reference to the collapse of the financial debate, Mr T. M. Wilford, M.P., said that he regretted that a debate did not take place, for a Budget contains general proposals for taxation only, and tlib debate generally furnishes the Government in power with the wish of the House regarding the form of legislation to be introduced to give eifect to proposals. The debate generally furnishes the Government for the time being with new view-points and new ideas which necessarily come from an allround debate. The loss of the debate leaves the National Government where it was before the introduction of the Budget, namely, ignorant of the wishes of members ami their ideas on salient points. This is regrettable, for at war timo every member should take the opportunity of 'debating proposals, clear of party, with the one idea of assisting the Government. Every member, when each Bill is brought down, should take his full time. Mr Wilford lectured .to a crowded meeting yesterday evening on behalf of war funds.
