TURNED DOWN; TOO OLD.
Too old to fight for country A worn and useless tiling. This is the doctor's verdict, Too old to serve my King. Too old to bear a rifle, (Tho' sight is keen and strong), The pow'rs that be have said so. 'l'd like to prove- them wrong. To old' to fight a German, That foulest cur in crime : I'd show the brutal hell-hound, I'm still within my prime. An aged horse for a journey; He's sure, if not so fast. The staid -and full-grown forests, , Can stand the -winter's blast. Too old for battle's forefront, Young man take up my cry, And with my burning spirit Go forth to "do or die." Too old for active service, The strife for me. too latej Then. I must be contented. To ■nurse my rightful, hate. Too old! fo.r high ambition, Life's glow fades it way. The brightness of tho morning Has passed with waning day. —H. H. Heatley. Christ church.
