SUMNER SCHOOL.
The breaking-up ceremony in connection with the Sumner Borough School "was held iu the parish room yesterday afternoon. The chairman, Mr D. Lumsden. introduced Mr C. L. Wiggins, who entertained those present with a programmo of lantern slidea. Ilio I?ev W. J. Williams then addressed the gathering. congratulating the scholars on the completion of their year's work. The Mayor (MV J. B. Laurenson) urged the children to stick to their. lessons, plav the game, and do all they eotild to assist the soldiers at the front. Mr Laurenson spoke of the aims and advantages of present-day education, and the head teacher made special reference to the children's action in giving up both prizes and picnic to help the various war funds. The chairman then read the' following merit list, and after the Mayor had presented tho proficiency certificates, cheers were given for the old boys and teachers at the front, and the proceedings terminated with vote? of thank.-? for all helpers and the sitting of the Naticnal Anthem.
