BEYOND RANGE.
j LONDON AND THE "ZEPS." RAIDER TELLS OF ATTEMPTED ATTACK. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received September 28, 1.30 p.m.) BERNE), September 27. A member of a Zeppelin crew, writing to the newspaper "Der Bund," says: "London is beyond' our range. It is possible to reach it if a steady east wind blows, when we can float for a considerable distance, conserving our petrol. Unfortunately the weather is England's best ally. It is either windless, over-windy or bright moonlight. We took fewer bombs on the London raid, but they were specially larger. Wo reached the mouth of tho Thames, being unobserved owing to clouds and' the silence of our engines, until we arrived at the Tower Bridge, where we crossed to the north side- Searchlights then caught us, and immediately tho sky was ablaze, and the air rent with a terrific cannonade. The gunsi were at first unable to reach us, and we dropped bombs regularly until shrapnel began to play around' us." "Wo could discern dark spots of I considerable size amid the glow of light, and! dropped bombs her©, but the searchlights hampered us by cutting off the view of our objectiv?s. The English are terrorstricken at our wonderful Zeppelins. The effect must have been "awful. The British land guns are useless, but there are better ones on the coast, so w© were careful when returning. They always try to intercept ua from Dunkirk in the morning, so we take another direction. A great thing is plenty of petrol when English aeroplanes are about."
