MATTE FOR DIPLOMACY. CITY COUNCIL OPPOSES CHLFiBIIAT I ON. Arising out of ft request by tho Navy League Inst night that the City Cou no il should lend a certain number of flag poles and provide the labour for fiyinc Nolsou 8 last signal at Christ's College on Trafalgar _ Day, a short but interesting discussion culminated in a decision that no celebration should bo hold this year. Tho Mayor said that Trafalgar was foil gilt, between Britain and Franco, and as both Powers wore loyal allies at tho nresent time it was a delicate) question as to whether the day should! bo celebrated any longer. He suggested that tho By-laws Committee should be empowered to act. Councillor J. M'Cullough said that he was opposed to the settling of the matter bv a committee, and he would move that the request should bo declined. Councillor H. F. Horbert said that he was opposed to any outward display on Trafalgar Day, at least during tho duration of tho war. Tho motion was carried without dissent.
