A SUGGESTION.

TO THE KDITOIt. Sir,—As an interested reader of your esteemed journal would yon allow me to inquire as to when the Moderate* League are going to do something practical in the direction of reducing the evils of the liquor traffic? For some) weeks prior to the poll wp were assured that if another chance was given to the, trade that salutary reforms would Ixs made and that a new order of affairs would come to light. Assuming that Mr Boyle is a- constant reader of thet "Star'' ho will he well aware of thej records showing that the procession o( first offenders marches on with unceasing regularity and that the now year has started sadly with thousands rri' the Dominion who are slaves to intemperate habits. AYe are all deeply concerned withi the ravages of the great war in whichi our Empire is involved on the other, side of the world, but surely we cannot close our eyes to the direful results of the liquor traffic as recorded in our papers and seen by unprejudiced observers. Many citizens are strongly of opinion that the hotels should be) brought tinder the- provisions of the Shops and Offices Act and close at the same hours as shops and offices do. Could the disinterested Moderate League bring about such a desirable! alteration it would at any rate show) its desire to do something to justify, it* existence.—T am, etc., ST ALBANS.
