Dr Buck has been offered the position of chief medical officer to the Maori Contingent. Messrs 'C. Douglas Wilson (Napier) and M. M. Williams (Palmerston North) are guests at the Clarendon. Forbes was presented with a Kaiapoi rug on the occasion of her approaching marriage. , The presentation was made by Mr Steere. Dr W. Kington Fyffe, of Wellington, a well-known, medical man, and organist at St Peter's Church, .is going away on active service with the second reinforcements now assembling at Trentham. Both as a surgeon of great skill and a jgentleman of social qualities, Dr Fyffe will ba missed in Wellington. Yesterday the literary staffs of the " Lyttelton Times " and " Star " presented to Mr A. D. Wylie a table. service on the eve of his marriage. The presentation was made by Mr M. L. Reading, editor of the "Lyttelton Times," who referred brieflv to the esteem in which Mr Wylie was held by his colleagues, and on their behalf wished him happiness and prosperity in his future' life. Eulogistic speeches were made also by'Mr P. C. Freeth, editor of the "Star," Mr A. G. Henderson and Mr Mac Lean Dun, after which the recipient responded. News has been received in Wellington of the death at Preston Park, Brighton, England, of Surgeon-General Edward M'Kellar, M.D., J.P., of Woodleigh, Preston, eldest brother of Mr Dugald M'Kellar, of Wellington, formerly of H.M. Customs; Mr A. A. M. JVPKellar. Christchurch; and Mr J. S. M'Kellar, New Plymouth. The deceased gentleman had a distinguished military career (says tho Sussex "Daily News"). He was the son of Mr Dftgald M'Kellar, and was born at Battersea. Educated at Clapbam Grammar School and University College. London, he subsequently became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons. He was appointed Assistant Surgeon in the Honourable East India Company's service, .previous to the transfer* to the Crown. He served in all twenty-six years in India, was in no fower than sixteen engagements, serving throughout the second Burmese Wor in 1852-53, with her Majesty's 80>h Foot, and was present at the capture of Rangoon, Martaban and Pegu, and received medal and clasp for the campaign. He also served throughout the Indian Mutiny Campaign, and previous to the outbreak of the Mutiny he was surgeon in the famous Gwalior contingent."who mutinied and massacred nearlv all their officers.
