AUSTRALIA'S WAR FLEET.
UNDER IMPERIAL CONTROL. THE INDUSTRIAL POSITION. (Received August 11. noon.) SYDNEY, August 11. The Master Retailers' Association has endorsed the action of the* Chamber of Commerce in recommending the traders not to increase the prices of commodities until compelled to pay more. The Pacific and Oriental Company indicates that it intends to maintain all mail; sailings as usual.
Squatters are offering horses for the expeditionary force. A number of ministers have volunteered to accompany the force. Probably the Dean of Sydney will act as senior cLaplain. Lady Patev, wife of Admiral Patey, has formed a branch of the Royal Navy Friendlv Union for sailors' wives.
The Hauipdeu Cloncurry copper mine (Victoria) has closed, pending negotiations for financing the output of blister copper. One thousand men are ' affected. The tin mines at Emmaville are ceasing work, aud the meu are returning to the cities to enlist.
The official transfer of the fleet and men to Imperial control is gaaetted.
The Federal authorities arc using every endeavour to prevent a crisis affecting industries. The Broken Hill proprietary has arranged that work shall continue at the present rate of wages, though it will probably curtail the. hours of labour. Mount Lyell and Mount Morgan are expected to adopt similar conditions. The Central Council of the Employers' Federation appeals to the masters to do everything to provide work to confine the distress to the smallest limits.
