DEFENCE NOTES.
On Saturday afternoon the Ist Canterbury Regiment had a whole cay parade. Major Murphy was in command, and there was a muster of 27d l of all ranlcs. Before the regiment jleft the King Edward Barracks it was inspected by the officer coniiiWMulmg the district. It then proceeded to Mr Boag's property on the. Burnside Road. On the nay out advance guard v-ork was carried out, and this developed into an attack. Tea was provided, and the regiment left on the return journey at 7.10, reaching the barracks about, 8.33 p.m. This week all the companies are indulging in route marching, so ns to harden the men up for the work at the camp. If was noticeable on Saturday that several of the men of the Ist Canterbury Regiment showed signs of foot soreness. The n>nroh found out weaknesses, in some cases due to football accidents, but several ?nen suffered because they wore boots .much too light for the work. On March 28 the Ist: Canteririry Regiment will have a half-day parade and carry out attack practice
