A tempting bundle, of asparagus reached the fields' experiment division of the Agricultural Department this morning, as an evidence of what may be grown on sand areas. The specimens came from the land of Mr A. Florence, Racecourse Road, New Brighton, where comprehensive experiments are. being carried out this year. Mr A. Macplierson, Director of Field Experiments, has been urging the utilisation of these sand areas, and he eavs that good wops can be grown without any cultivation. Lucerne, especially, does very well on the sand. He states that laet year, on sandy ground at To Oranga, a crop of five tons of potatoes to the acre was dug. although, owing to the peculiarity of the .season, roots were email ail over Canterbury.
