LICENSING LEGISLATION
* THE NATIONAL ISSUE. TEMPERANCE PARTYHOPEFUL. The Hon C. M. Luke, M.L.0., arrived in Cbristchureh yesterday on a short visit, aud was interviewed by a " Star"' representatives regarding matters of interest in the political arena. Touching on the question of licensing legislation, Mr Luke said, in reply to a question that there was nothing very definite known about prospective legislation yet. He believed that the temperance party would persist in its request for a reduction of the margin necessary to carry no-license, and it was hopeful that in the event of Mr Massey bringing down any legislation on the subject an opportunity would bo provided to secure the reduction. The party was very hopeful of success, at least as far as tho national issue was concerned. Ho understood that some measure would bo brought down, and if so the temperance party would welcome the opportunity to amend the prevailing condition of affairs.
