PROHIBITION.
A TRADE PLEA. [Fhoji Otra Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, July 18. Regarding the prohibition deputaction to the Premier yesterday,, a prominent member of the trade, interviewed this morning, said:—" We are, of course, against the bare majority or any reduction of the majority. Prohibitionists held formerly that- it would require 'a three-fifths majority to give prohibition a sufficient moral support to make it valid. Wo rely upon the fair-mindedness of the people to vote .against tlioso who would, confiscate our business and reduce the value of our properties. It is a mistake to think that, the loss of one section of the community is gjoing to benefit others, as if one trade suffers all branches of industry must suffer. Further, prohibitionists confess that nearly one million of money would be lost to the revenue of the country, but they do not propose that the prohibitionists alone should make good this loss. Can the dominion afford to lose this revenue?"
