LAND BALLOT.
OFFERED ON OPTIONAL SYSTEM. The Canterbury Land Board met this morning in committee to consider tho qualifications of applicants for land in tho Oxford Survey District which was to be offered for selection on the optional .system. The ballot took place in the afternoon, in the Land Board's room. Mr G. It. Pollen, Commissioner of Crown Lands presided, and Messrs J. Sealey and R. Macauley, members of the Board, were also present. Tho land had been divided into six blocks, ranging from. 2CKS to 237 acres in area. A considerable area was in grass and burnt bush, but the soil oi" the cleared land was described as being of good quality. Most of-tho land was well watered. At the foot of the description of tho sections was added a paragraph to tho effect that good homestead sites were difficult to obtain on the block. The eastern section is six and a quarter miles distant from the West Oxford railway station, and tho western section about five miles from tho View Hill Post Office. Tho ballot resulted as follows:
