DEFENCE FORCE.
Several Cliristchnroh members of tho permanent staff of tho Defence Force are still in Palmerston North, attending the "refresher camp" there. Tlie first batch of officers will return at the; end of next week, and another batch will then be sent to the camp.
Territorial officers and non-commis-sioned officers in Christchurch also are taking a groat deal of interest in the camp, which is affording them an opportunity to obtain much practical knowledge. Several officers of tho First Mounted Rifles Regiment (Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry), who were in Christchurch to-day, expressed their intention of getting away from their ordinary duties in order to spend sdme days in the camp. Arrangements have not been completed yet for the point-to-point steeplechase for officers and non-commissioned officers of the First Mounted Rifles Regiment, which will be held next month. The site for the meeting has not been fixed, but this is practically the only item that has to be attended to.
