CHRISTCHURCH. . Tuesday, Slay 13. (Before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.)

Drunkenness. Thomas Eagan, charged with helpless drunkenness was convicted and ordered to pay the police expenses, £3 0s 6d, in default one month's imprisonment. He was also ordered s to report twice a week to the nearest police.

Prohibition Breaches. William Withell (Sir Flesher( was fined 10s and costs for having entered licensed premises while prohibited. He was also fined 10s and costs for having procured liquor while prohibited, and on three other charges of having procured liquor he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.;— Slarie Sanson, for having procured liquor while prohibited, was convicted and discharged.—Charles Alfred Clark, for having entered licensed premises while pronibited, was fined 20s and costs, and for having procured liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. —Emma Esther Shaw, charged with having entered licensed premises while prohibited, was fined 10s and costs. — William Arthur Cocker, charged with drunkenness and with having procured liquor while prohibited, was convicted and declared an habitual inebriate, and was ordered to be detained in Rotoroa for two years. Adjourned.—James Phillipson, for whom Sir Leathern appeared, was charged with having unlawfully sold liquor to Jessie Eagar. Sergeant Mathieson said that the defendant's wife had been dealt with lightly by Sir H. W. Bishop, on a similar charge, on account of her poverty, and the fact that she had a family to support. He did not think that the same leniency should be extended to the husband. The Magistrate stated that he would adjourn the case until Slay 20 to enable Sir Bishop to deal with it. Maintenance.—Arthur Gordon Goodrich (Sir Leathern) was charged with having failed to maintain three children in an orphanage. He was convicted and sentenced to two months' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended provided 10s per week be paid, and the order to be suspended until the arrears be paid off. —Alfred William Wheal was charged with having failed to maintain two children, inmates of a Receiving Home, the arrears amounting to £2O. He was convicted, and sentenced to twenty-one days' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended for three months, and not to issue if £5 be paid within that period.—James O'Malley was charged with having failed to maintain two inmates of a Receiving Home. He was ordered to pay 3s a week towards the support of each child.—James Hallam (Sir Leathern) was charged with having failed to maintain his wife and child. Sir Ctiningham appeared for the complainant. The defendant was ordered to pay 17s 6d a week towards his wife and child's support, she to have the custody of the child.—-Sydney Thomas Pledge was ordered to pay 10s a week towards his wife's maintenance.
