, • ALLEGED IRREGULARITIES. [Per Pxess Association.] . ; HASTINGS, May 13. A petition objecting to the election of. Sir Eustace Lane as a-representative of the Hastings Borough on the Napier Harbour Board has been lodged. The grounds of the objection are that- Lane Is not eligible for re-election, as his name is not on the roll for the district; that the returning officer did not comply with the Act by failing to recount all the voting papers; that the returning offioer failed to appoint a day for the nomination of candidates; and "that informal votes were counted in favour of Mr Lane, the recording of such votes affecting the result of the poll. The petitioners say that Mr Lane fe not elected, and the election is void.
