RIFLE SHOOTING.

CHRISTCHURCH RIFLE CLUB v. VETERANS' RIFLE CLUB.

The Christchurch Defence Rifle Club and the Veterans' Defence Rifle Chib fired a match on the Cashmere range on Saturday, ten men a side and seven shots (optional sighter) at 300, 500 and GOOyds. The weather was not favourable for good shooting, being very dull, with a bad light, and a fitful, tricky easterly wind. Nevertheless some good scores were made, and the performance of Sergeant-Hajor Graham, of the Veterans' Club, in notching- 97, was -an excellent one. This was top score for the day. For the Christchurch Chib 05 was tcp score, got by Riflemen H. N. Eiby and P. Morgan. Rifleman Eiby's was the best total, as he finished at the last range, 60Oyds, with the splendid totalof 34. At 800 yds the Christchurch Club obtained a lead of ten points, despite the fact that Rifleman Halmshaw, of the Veterans', started the ball rolling with 84, ths inner bein? his sixth shot. Ths next best total was Rifleman J. Nixon's (Veterans) S3. At 500 yds the Chrißtchurch Club shot very solidly and increased their lead by a further twenty points. Rifleman J." Turner (Christchurch) led 1 the way with a "possible," Rifleman Morgan (Christchurch) and Rifleman Biel (Veterans) followed with 34 each, and there were several 88's. At GOOyds the light had become very thick, and shooting became very difficult towards the end. Riflemen Eiby and Sandford (Christchurch) easily held their own with the splendid totals of 34 each, closelv followed by Riflemen M'Cau*land and Graham, each with 33. The Christchurch Club added another twenty-seven points to their lead at this range, eventually winning by fifty-seven points, ' the score's being:—Christchurch 917, Veterans SGO.
