STOKEHOLD EXPLOSION. EIGHT LIVES LOST. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. (Received April 26, 10 a.m.) LONDON, April 25. A message from Berlin says that an explosion occurred in the stokehold of the steamer Imperator, and eight firemen were killed and three critically wounded.
[Pes Prhss Association.] DANNEVIRKE, April 26. James Smith, a labourer at Kiritaki. was found dead in a paddock this morning. He was engaged in carting firewood, and his horse had evidently bolted.
WELLINGTON, April 26. Three inquests were held to-day, the verdiots in two cases being that death was due to heart disease. These cases were those of Harry Williams and John Ivimm ins. In the case of the negro Alfred Britis, who died in gaol while serving; six months' for sly-grog selling, the evidence showed that the deceasea was far gone in consumption, which was the chief cause of his death.
