AUCKLAND MAYORALTY.

[Per Prksr Association."l AUCKLAND, April 19

The Mayoi. Mr C. .J. Parr, yesterday afternoon addressed a meeting of members of tho Tramways Union, which is one of the Unions affiliated with tho Federation of Labour. Mr Farrelly, of the Tramways Union, was voted to the chair, and said that although they might differ from Mr Parr they would give him a fair hearing. Tlie Mayor sakl he was not afraid to face the people, because .he had nothing in bis record to bo ashamed of. Here Mr Parr was interrupted by Mr Paul Richards president of the Union, who insisted on questioning the Mayor before he went further. Mr Parr: Mr Richardson, you are president of a Union and know that tho procedure is to allow a speaker to finish his remarks before questions are put. Mr Richardson: I want to question you now. There will be no time for questions.

A bystander; Oh, shut- up. Give the Mayor a chance.

The Mayor then proceeded to explain the position of the Council in regard to the labour question. ' He said he was being blamed for tho action of a conference of forty-three delegates of local bodies. He was no more, to blame than his friend Mr Richardson would be, if hia Union almost unanimously resolved on a certain course of action.' Amidst considerable interruption the Mayor proceeded and finished his remarks.

The meeting closed with cheers for Mr Parr and Mr Skelton,
