C'Hlll STCHURCH. Tiiuksday, December 28. (Before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.) Drunkenness.—Six first offenders i'or drunkenness wore each lined OS, in default twenty-Jour hours' imprisonment. —-Peter Reynolds, for a third offence within six months, v.-its convicted and discharged, and a prohibition order was issued against him. - -Malcolm M'Kirile.V ■ who had been remanded for a week to rorover from the effects of a drinking bout, was convicted and discharged. Drink ami Tukft.—-James Baxter pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness, and to the theft of an umbrella, valued at 10s fid, the property of some .person unknown, and not guiity to the theft of an axe anil a walking-stick, valued at 16s (3d. the property of Alfred Norman. Sub-inspector M'Grath stated that the accused had been stopping at the Glasgow Coffee Palace, the articles stolon having been left in his room._ The previous morning he had left his lodgings about five o'clock with the umbrella in his possession, while tho axe and stick were missed after his departure, but were subsequently found under his mattress. When arrested he said that be bad taken the umbrella for a joke, and had thrown it over n fence. He showed the constable whero he had thrown it, and it was recovered, although in a badly damaged condition. The Sub-Inspector said that the man bad been on a " big bend." which most likely accounted for the offence. He was convicted on the first charge of theft, and was ordered to pay 5s for the damage done to the umbrella, the other information for theft being dismissed, whilo for drunkenness he was convicted and ordered to come up for .sentence when called upon, conditionally upon hi 3 remaining in the Salvation Arnrv Home for one week. Ho was allowed three weeks in which to X)ay for the daniaee.
Soliciting. Julian Ann Colo pleaded not guilty to a charge of having solicited prostitution in Hereford Street on .December 117, and pleaded bard for a chance. "When asked if sho would go to a homo she answered smilingly: "No thank you, your Worship. T would prefer to go to my own homo if you please.Her smile, however, quickly vanished when a sentence of fourteen days' hard labour ivas imposed.
