While blasting operations were being carried on on the railway near Marseilles, the dynamite exploded prematurely, six persons being killed and a number injured. This morning a ballast train crashed into eight, stationary trucks at Mount Albert station, owing, it is understood, to the brakes failing to act- on the slippery rails. Two trucks were reduced to matchwood, and others were more or le>s smashed up. The engine .jumped the rails, and the forepart sustained somo damage. The men on the engine escaped unhurt-.
