An Antarctic disturbance, with strong, bitterly cold winds, is interfering with the shipping and telegraphic communication. There have been snowfalls in upland districts. AN ARGUMENT THAT WAS DECLINED. A country deputation, in asking for help to erect a hospital, urged that it had fought for Labour, and expected a reward. Mr Flowers declined to accept this as a favourable argument. EARTHQUAKES. The Review College Observatory also recorded earth tremors lasting several hours. The periods of some of the waves were nearlv forty seconds. ADULT SUFFRAGE. The City Council's Committee recommends the concession of adult suffrage in tlio election of aldermen. MIXED MARRIAGES. MELBOURNE, June 9. The non-Roman churches have issued a joint manifesto against the papal Ne Temere decree. It declares that the decree is contrary to public policy and inimical to domestic peace and social welfare. NEW THEATRE. The new theatre, the Melba, lias been opened at a cost of over £32,000. WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY. PERTH, June 9. The erection of a Federal Marconi wireless station has commenced at Applecross. The mainmast is 396 ft high.
