OHRISTOHURCH. Monday, March 20. ("Before Mr H. AV. Bishop, S.M.) Dbunkennkss.—A female and a male, first offenders, were each fined ss, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. —Another male first offender was also charged with assault, but the complainant did not appear, and tho rharge was withdrawn. On the charge of drunkenness he was fined 10s, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment. —Victor George Gardiner, with one previous conviction, was fined 10s, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment.—George Lester Burton, a second offender, appeared after having spent a fortnight in the hospital. The police stated that he had been found in a drain in the park, and was so ill that he had been taken to the hospital. Accused objected to a prohibition order against himself, saying that it was not in accordance with his politics. Ho was ordered to pay 7s (3d fee for the ambulance, and was given a fortnight in which to find tho money, in. default fortv-oight hours' imprisonment. Ino Magistrate olso issued a prohibition order. ~, A Familiar Face.—Kate Brown, with fifty-two previous convictions, and looking decidedly the worse for wear, was charged with drunkenness and using obscene language. She said that she did not remember the occasion, and had not been in gaol for two years. She was living with a man on Oxford Terrace. " That is what you call being respectable. Three months' imprisonment with hard labour," said Mr Bishop. ..
