FIRES.

i [Per Press Association.] THAMES, Marc'h 17. Early this morning the Shortland Hotel, an old building, owned by Messrs Campbell, Ehrenfried and Co., was found to be on fire. When the brigade arrived the whole of the top storey was afire, but splendid work by the men saved the lower half, whero little damage was done. The insurances are:—On the building' £6OO in the Phrenix Office, on tho furniture £3OO, on the stock £IOO, and on personal effects £SO in the Imperial Office. The present licensee is Mr John Yankovitch.
