REDEEMING THE PLATE.
Four Paisley worthies met one morning after continued festivities. All they could muster among them was one solitary shilling, which was given to one of them to make the most of, as he was considered pretty sharp. He took it to a pawnbroker's where he was well known, and asked the loan of tenpence on it. The broker thought it a good joke, and gave him a ticket marked " a piece of silverplate." "With his chums he now adjourned to a pub-lic-house, the owner of which was known to buy anything. There ah animated discussion arose as to the absurdity of pawning such a fine piece of .silver-pla-le. for such a small sum {taking good care the landlord should hear them).
