STATE POLITICS.

NEW SOUTH WALES. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received August 3, 10.15 a.m.) ; _ SYDNEY, August 3. In the Legislative Assembly the Premier moved, the second reading of the Workmen's Compensation Bill. He said that the liability extended to work carried out for .the purpose-of profit where .a-number of men and machinery were employed. Casual employees were exempt, as the only desire was to give relief in established businesses, where the risk was a substantial thing in spite of precautions. Miners and seamen were excluded, as they caine under other Acts. The Act would be extended afterwards on lines found safe by experience. .

The Opposition supported the Bill, but complained that it was not generous enough. They said it was copied from the New Zealand Act of 1900, which was found inadequate. The debate was adjourned.
