Tlio trading returns for the first six months of the financial year show the imports to hnvo been £10.229,000. and the exports £14,600,000. VITAL STATISTICS.. The report of the Chief Medical Officer for last year on the population of tlio Metropolis shows an increase of 15,000 births, or 26.11 per thousand, the illegitimates contributing 10 per cent. The death-rate was 11.09, the lowest on record. AUSTRALIANS AS MEAT EATERS. MELBOURNE, July 28. Dr Browni, Chief Inspector of Meat, states that the Australians are the biggest meat eaters in the world. The year's returns show that tlio average consumption per head was two sheep, a fifth of a bullock, and a fifth of a pig. The meat industry is unusually prosperous.
