CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.

The committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club held its monthly meeting on Tuesday. Sir George Clifford and Mr F. H. Pyne wero appointed to represent the olub at the Raoing Conference. An application for registration by the Springfield Hack Racing Club was approved, and one from the Kokatahi Racing Club was left to the chairman to deal with. It was resolved to submit the following new rule to _ie Racing Conference:— "When any licensed trainer or jockey ha_ been called bft fore the stewards or committee df any club and punished, reprimanded or warned, a report of the proceedings shall be seat to the Metropolitan Committee, which shall forward it to the secretary of the Racing Conference. Such report shall be entered in a book, to be kept for the purpose, and shall be open for inspection by the officials of aiiy olub." It was decided that no rider in a hurdle race or . steeplechase on the club's course would be weighed out unless he was provided with a skull-cap, and it was also resolved to bring the matter before the Racing Conference as a suggestion for amendment of the Rules of Racing. ' Gentlemen riders' certificates were granted to A. F. Log and A. J. Chalmers, a trainer's license to C. W. M'Gee, jockeys' licenses to J. M. Hegarty. A. 'M'Leod anA. Trilford, and an apprentice jockey's license to T. H. Richards. The application of C. L. Hart for a jockey's license was declined. The transfer of the filly Shawnee, by St Ambrose — Savannah, from. A. Boyle to J. B. Reid, was approved. It wag decided that in future two dividends should be paid out when there were six starters, in terms of the Rules- of Racing. The Hon J.^D. Ormond having complained 1 of the handicapping of his horses at the recent Easter meeting, the complaint, together with the reply of Mr J. E. Henrys, was referred to a sub-committee, which will report to the committee. It was resolved to build a caretaker's cottage on the left' side of the carriage drive. The Programme Committee submitted a report, which was adopted. It recommended that the conditions of the New Zealand 1 Cup should remain the same as last year. With regard to the Grand National programme, it recommended increases in stakes to the following races: — ! Winter Cup and Lincoln Steeplechase, 100 sovs each; Trial Hurdle Race, August Handicap, B e aufort Steeplechase. Islington Handicap, Heathcote Handicap, Sydenham Hurdle Race and Selwyn Handicap. 50 sovs each; the Hunters' Hurdle Race, Enfield Steeplechase, Avonhead. (late Hack) Handicap, Hunt Club Cup, Sumner Handicap, Spreydon Hack Hurdle Race, Styx Hack Hurdle Race and Redcliffes Handicap to be increased to 180 sovs, the second horse to receive 25 sovb and the third horse lo sovs in each race. The conditions of the Tally-ho Plate were amended in the direction suggested by several hunting men, and the Ladies' Plate was eliminated, a Hunters' Steeplechase, of the value of 100 sovs, taking its place. The committee proposed to reduce the payments for entries, acceptances, etc., in the Grand National Steep'echase and Hurdle Race from 12 sovb to 10 sovs, and to ask nothing further from owner, for tlie races whero the slakes were increased. . The distances of the Hunt Club Cup and Lincoln Steeplechase were altered from two miles and a" half to three miles. The total increase in stakes for the meeting amounts to 710 sovs.
