DUNEDIN, May 4. A local resident who took, advantage of the opening of the duck, season to have a day's sport will be prosecuted by the Acclimatisation; •Society next week for havinjg more, than six paradise ducks, namely, eleven, in his possession.
The net cash from Lieutenant Shackletoh's recent lecture in Dunedin amounts to £125. The allocation is not yet finally decided upon. Mr James Christie, publisher of the "Bruce Herald" is in receipt of a writ claiming £200 damages for publishing a libel on Mr Robert Hewitson, farmer of Lovell's Flat. During the county elections in November last a letter was- inserted m- the }%, Bruce Herald" and signed rt Crichton Riding Ratepayer," . and part of this will be the subject of the suit. The case will be heard probably at the* next sitting of the Supreme Court early this month at Duneairi.
Since Saturday, James Wilks and his son, Thomas Wilks . (of Owaka) have been missing in the bush at Chaslands. Anxious neighbours have combined with the police to make a thorough searchi.
