CHRISTCHURCH. TUKSDAY, AtJUTJST %5. (Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) Drunkenness. — A female first offender, charged with drunkenness, was fined o.s and costs, with the customary alternative. Bbjsacijes ov Prohibition Orders. — Samuel Barber Wathew was charged with having on August 13 procured liquor, during the currency of a prohibition order against him. The offence was proved, and the accused was fined 20s, with tli© alternative of rnurteen days' imprisonment. — Henry James Goodman was charged with having entered licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order against him. He was convicted and fined 20s. with the alternative of fourteen days Imprisonment. Native Game ot.t of Season.— -Dennis Brothers were charged with having offered for sale native pigeons during a time when it was illegal to do so. Mr Harper appeared for the defendants. Sergeant Johnetoii suid that'the information had been wrongly drawn, the offence was having possession of the pigeons. Mr Harper stated that he would have raised that point. The information was dismissed, the police being recommended to lay another information. Maintenance. — Thomas J. Smith, who did not appear, was stated to be tho step-father of • three children, nimaxet> of the Auckland Industrial School, and to be able to contribute to their support.. Sergeant Johnston stated that the children were committed in 1904, and' the defendant had since married their mother. An order was made for the payment of 5s a week in respect of each child. — Matthew Woods was ordered to pay 10« a week towards tho maintenance of an inmate of the Mental Hcspital — Henry Trott (Mr Leathern) proceded against George and Alfred Trott (Mr Hunter) for })is maintenance, George Trott being his near relative, and Alfred his grandson. Evidence was givejp. by the plaintiff's wife to the effect that he was in receipt of £72 a year above £78 paid in alimony, and owned some land, and a horse and cart and a gig, but the receipts were not sufficient to enable him to live. George Trott stated that he had often taken things to hie f atlier, who had beoomd so abusive to him that he had had to stop. Witness had about £10,000 worth of property.- His Worship said that the plaintiff was not destitute and dismissed the case; but he had no hesitation in saying that George Trott's refusal to pay something from his substance towards the support of his father was most discreditable to him. No costs would be allowed. — Donald Ritchie was charged with failing to provide for the maintenance of his illegitimate child, and was remanded fon- one month. W. H. Winder, similarly charged, was ordered to ©o-n---trihute at tho rate of 7e 6d per week, to pay £3 3s expenses and the costs of the case and to find £100 surety.— George Lomas was charged with having deserted his wife, and was remanded to appear at Waipukurau on Friday.
