ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A FATAL FIRE. [Per Prkss Association.] NAPIER, August '21. Clara Ford, seventy-three years of age,, an old age pensioner, was burnt to death this morning in a cottage where she was living alone. The flames had obtained a strong hold when discovered, and on the fire being subdued the charred remains of the woman were found. The cottage and the adjoining one were badly damaged, and were owned by Mrs Cohen. They were insured in the Queensland Office for £250. GISBORNE, August 21. On the Tyser steamer Indradevi thi6 morning a seaman named George Lambert, whilst working cargo, fell down a hatch a distance of thirty feet. He sustained severe injuries, and was sent to the hospital.
