HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.

WELLINGTON, August 17

The Department of industries and Commerce has received the following Cable message from the High Commissioner, dated London, August 15 : —

Frozen Meat. — Mutton; — The market is steady, and though there is not much demand prices are firm, as there is a scarcity of prime quality. Current quotations are : Canterbury, light weight 4£d, North Island 3gd; heavy weight, Canterbury 3|d, North Island 34d. Lamb — The market is quipt with moderate business doing. There is a dull sale for heavy carcases, but a good demand for light weights. Beef — Tfitere is no change in prices to report in the beef market, which is firm with more inquiry, and small supplies comilig fqrward; hindquarters 4^d, forequarters 'Sid.

Butter. — The market is Bteady and prices are woll maintained; choicest New Zealand brands 116s, nominal; Danish 1225, Siberian 109s per cwt.

Cheese. — The market is firm with an upward tendency; New Zealand white makes 61s. coloured 69s 6d per cwt. Hemp. — The market continues dull with no change in prices. Last week's output from Manila amounted to 16.000 bales.

Cocksfoot. — The seed market is firm, but there is little doing; bright, clean, 171b seed, 79s per cwt. Wool. — The following are the current quotations for Bradford tops: — Thirty-sixes, low cross-breds, lOd ; forties, low cross-breds, 10£d; forty-fours, medium cross-breds, ll^d; fifties, halfbreds. Is 3£d; fifty-sixes, quarterbreds, Is 6£d ; sixties, inerinoes. Is lid. The market is quiet with a tendency in favour of buyers.

Hops. — Tho hop market is quiet, with no alteration in prices. Crop prospects ate favourable.
