At 8 p.m. on Saturday, the J squadron was 1500 miles from Auckland, and at 7 a.m. on Sunday it passed the eastern end of Tutulia, steaming along the coast in single column, close inshore, giving the inhabitants an | excellent view. At 9 "a.m. the fleet j headed direct for Auckland, cruising in { formation of lino of squadron being resumed. The speed was reduced to nine and a half knots in order to avoid arrival in Auckland before Augußt 9. Tlio hospital ship Relief, which stopped at Pago Pago to coal, will follow the fleet to Auckland. The weather is fine, but hot.

[Per P&ess Association.] WELLINGTON, August 3. Very complete arrangements have been made by the Commissioner of Police (Mr W. Dinnie) for the preservation of Taw and order in Auckland during the " American Fleet Week." The local force of police will be doubled by drafting sergeants and constables from other centres. in the dominion, and in addition the Permanent Artillery stationed in Auckland will be pressed into the police force. Members of the detective force from the southern cities will also be sent to Auckland for the occasion. The Commissioner will bo in Auckland himself. Detective Broberg and Acting-Detective Quartermain, of Wellington, have been selected for special duty in the northern city.

Tlia warship's Encounter and Pioneer arrived at Auckland from Napier shortly before three o'clock yesterday afternoon. The flagship Powerful is also at Auckland.
