RULES OF THE GAME.
SUGGESTED AMENDMENTS. [Pc» Pkess Association.] AUCKLAND, June 25. The conference of the Rugby Union and referees, held last night, suggested the following amendments to the rules : — Fom*teen players instead of fifteen. In the event of a player knooking-on, and catching the ball before it touches the ground, this will not count as a knock-on. That power should be given to the officials of any Union, as well as the referee, to report cases of misbehaviour or foul play. That games should be played in four quarters, with one spell instead of two halves. That a goal from a mark or a penalty should count two points. That no charging should be allowed in caso of a free-kick or a kick from a try. That a player shall be off-«ide if ho advances beyond a line drawn through the back row of the <?crummage. That a player is not a part of- the Gftrummage by merely placing his hand on the scrummage. This is to do away with the wingforward. That the ball must be thrown in at least five yards from the touchline.
