The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable message from the High Commissioner, dated London, April 11 : — Frozen Meat. — Mutton — The market id quiet and holders are firm. The ax-' rivals from all parts since January 1 show a decrease of 550,000 carcases over the corresponding period of last year. Small shipments are expected, and light weights are extremely scarce, for which a brisk demand prevails. The following are current quotations: — Canterbury mutton, 4£d ; North Island, 4§d ; River Plate, Bsd. There is a dull sale for heavy carcases of mutton, which are quoted as follows: — Canterbury >- 3|d;, North Island, 3§d; River Plate, 3fd. Lamb. — The market is firm; stocks on hand a.re light, and the supply meets the demand. Heavy weights -can obtain a small premium. Canterbury brands, 6jjd; other than Canterbury, ofd. Beef. — The market is firm, and stocks of New Zealand brands on hand are light. Supplies of River Plate beef are heavy, with only a moderate demand, which is purely ' speculative. Hindquarters, 3Jd; forequarters, 3Jd per lb. Butter.— Th© market is steady, best quality being scare© and in good demand; choicest New Zealand butter, 1113 ; Australian, 107s ; Argentine, 107s ; Danish, lOQs ; Siberian, 106s per cwt. Cheese.— The market is quiet, the tendency being in favour of buyers; white makes, 60s; coloured, which are in small supply, 62s per cwt. Hemp.— The market is rising, and there is a better demand for good fair grade at £26 10s per ton, fair grade £25 18s for all positions. Cocksfoot. — The seed market is quiet, and buyers are not keen on business; bright clean 171 b seed 80s per cwt.
