CHRISTCHTJRCH. Wkdnesday, December IS. (Before Mr V. G. Day, S.M.) Drunkenness. — .James Matthew Roger Jack, with two previous convictions during the past six months, was convicted of drunkenness and of obtaining liquor during tli© currency of a prohibition order, and wa6 fined 20s, in default seven days' imprisonment on the first charge, and 40s, in default a month's imprisonment, the second charge. — Leonard Craig, for navinu been drunk and procuring liquor auring the currency of a prohibition order, was fined 40s on each charge, with ..he alternative of eight weeks' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended if he remained in the Samaritan Home. Theft. — Thomas Butfcerfield and Ada Boyce, alias Wilson, were charged with having stolen two . photographs and frames, the property of F. B. Hughes, on December 12Butterfield was further charged with stealing 61b of- bacon, the property of Mrs Tapley. He wa6 sentenced to two months' imprisonment on each charge, and the female accused was also sentenced to,two months' imprisonment for «>tealing the photographs. The Seductive Path. — Thomas O'Keefe, James Sparks, Ernest M'Donald and Norman James M'Dowell were each fined 10s and costs for riding bicycles on footpaths.— For riding 'without lights, William Roberts and William Haigh were fined 20s and oosts each. Bt.-i.aw Bbeaches. — Susannah Peareon, for allowing a cow to wander in Brougham Street, was fined 5s and costs. — Albert H. G. Smith, for grazing a horse on a street at Spreydon, was fined 5s and costs.— : Walter Bishop, for leaving a vehicle and horse unattended at Papanui, was fined 10s and costs. — Dr Hugh S. D. Acland, who did not appear, was fined 10s and costs for not naving stamped a receipt which was liable to etamp duty. Prohibition Orders. — A prohibition order was issued against a man on his brother's application, and another was issued against a young man on the- application of his mother. Adjourned. — Edgar Neate, for whom Mr Donnelly appeared, was^ charged with keeping premises in High Street for the purpose of gambling. Mr Donnelly stated that the case was in the hands of Mr Cassidy, for whom he was appearing, and asked for an adjournment until Saturday, which was granted. — The case of Eugene Laugier was adjourned to January 10. Maintenance. — Robert Currie was charged with failing to comply with, an order for the maintenance of his illegitimate child, and was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, and in default of payment of solicitor's fee was awarded an extra week in gaol. Pot - stick Pleasantries. — Emily Elizabeth Guv (Mr Leathern) proceeded against Mary Kelly (Mr Donnelly), stating that defendant had assaulted her with a potnstick, an implement described by Mr ponnelly as "a woman's true /weapon." After hearing evidence regarding the strained relations between the parties his Worship convicted defendant and ordered her to pay the costs of the prosecution. School Attendance. — Robert Pringle 10s and costs, Thomas Hooper 5s and ! costs , and Peter Jack 5s and costs, were fined for failing to send their children to school. — A similar charge against Ernest Simpson was dismissed.
