A SHIPPING CASE.
w [Per. Press Association.] DUNEDIN, August 13. At the Police Court to-day the Invercargill Shipping Company was charged with failing to supply to the Superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Dunedin an agreement with the crew of the steamship Rimu within twenty-one days after the termination of the said agreement. There were also three charges against the master of the Rimu (Johann Bergquist) of (1) failing to cause the crew to be properly exercised in boat j drill, (2) failing to enter in the official log the date of boat drill, and (3) fail- I ing tp enter in the log the draught of I water and extent of freeboard. For i the defence it was explained that the omissions, except a 6 regards boat drill, were due to the vessel" being laid up. The action was brought as h warning to others. The Magistrate said that unde* the circumstances he would fine the Shipping Company 20s and costs £2 9s. The captain was fined on the first charge 60s and costs (£3 10s), and on the second case 20s and ooeto (£2 9a).
