The New York "Herald's" Valparaiso correspondent on Saturday tele- j graphed that the dead and injured there will number thousands. Most of the damage was done on Friday, the worst shocks occurring in the morning. The panic is appalling, and the fires are still spreading, owing to the lack of water.
