MILLIONAIRE'S WIFE TO BE TRIED.

ACCUSED OF MURDERING A SERVANT. NEW YORK, Thursday, June 21.— Th© unusual spectacle of a millionaire's wife being tried for murder will be witnessed a few months hence at Sioux Falls, Dakota, where Mrs Emma Kauffmann, -t^ie wife of one of the wealthiest brewers- in. the West, /vas committed for trial yesterday on a charge of murdering Agnes Poireis, one of her servants. ,

The girl was only sixteen years of age, and died in hospital from the effects of a- severe beating and other injuries which* Mrs Kauffmann is accueed of inflicting. She was arrested on the girl's death. The story has aroused intense public indignation. When the magistrate announced his decision yesterday, Mrs Kauffmann was taken to the county gaol tn a condition of collapse, and escorted by her husband, whose grief at his wife's position was pitiful. It is probable that the application for bail will be postponed for some days, perhaps for a few weeks, as the woman's lifers threatened. At a public meeting held in the city yesterday some of the speakers declared that if Mrs Kauffmann were not kept in gaol, but allowed to remain in her home until the trial, the women would dynamite her house. On the way to and from the courthouse -Mrs Kauffmann was hissed, and cries of "Lynch her!" "Hang her!" were raised' by the angry mob.
